You can define a simple, but powerful success formula in three steps:
3. Keep Doing
While this is important for us as individuals, as leaders the leverage is amazing.
Think of this as a powerful coaching and mentoring tool. Think of the uses for you in your team leadership role.
You can use this simple formula with anyone you lead, or with your entire organization.
1. Help people decide what actions are most important (or build their understanding and commitment if the decision was reached elsewhere)
2. Support, expect, inspect and provide resources for people to do those more important actions (which might also mean helping people move, take away or otherwise eliminate other tasks that keep them from these actions.)
3. Promote, remind and reward people to stay the course in doing these most important actions.
These activities can help you be a dramatically more effective leader and help you produce significantly better organizational outcomes.
You can do all of these things – anyone can. The challenge is to actually do them! If you have personal challenges in transforming what you know into action, you might want to consider leadership coaching for yourself.
