After many gifts and the plenty of trips to the library, one of the first inspirational, self improvement authors I spent my money to invest in was Denis Waitley. Since then I’ve read many of his books, listened to his audio programs and met him. If you aren’t familiar with his work, click on his name below – he’s is a wise and thought provoking author and speaker.
One of my favorite quotations of his is:
“The most important three words you can say to yourself: Yes I can!”
– Denis Waitley, speaker and author
How often do I say these words to myself?
In what current situation do I need to say, and believe, these words?
- Say these three words more often.
- Say them as a reminder, as reinforcement, and as affirmation.
- Say them right now.
My guess is that you read that short quotation and have one of two reactions:
– yes, that is so true!
– Saying it doesn’t make it so Kevin, this is just simple, silly positive thinking!
Whichever camp you are in, read on . . .
I believe in having a positive attitude. I believe that we must believe we can achieve something. And while I don’t believe that a “yes I can” positive thought will automatically allow me to succeed, and also believe that without that thought and that belief your chances for success are about as good as winning the Lottery.
There is much more involved in achieving success in any endeavor than just believing you can, but if you don’t start there, how much discipline, focus, and determination will you show as you move in that direction?
As an achiever we must first believe we can succeed. As a leader we must believe and help others believe that too. While we can’t stop there, without a belief in those three important words “yes I can”, you might as well buy a Lottery ticket.
It’s your choice.
If you believe it, say it. Often.
Yes I can.
