Five Important Things Missing From Most Supervisor Training

Around the world today there will be plenty of people sitting in some sort of supervisor training workshop. And while those sessions will be well designed and led by skilled and well meaning trainers and facilitators, the vast majority of these sessions will leave out skills that will be critical to both the supervisor’s and the organization’s success.

Here are five of those things:

- setting jointly held goals
- developing and communicating a vision of a desired future
- creating greater levels of accountability
- sharing responsibility more quickly and fully
- transitioning from a doer to a leader

The list could be longer, but this is a start.  Notice that none of these are the tangible stuff like policies and procedures, legalities and more.  While those things are important, they are a very baseline minimum need.  To create better supervisors who can truly lead requires more.

if your supervisor leadership training/development program has all of these, congrats!

If not, you are leaving the development of some of the most effective leadership skills to chance.  Let us know how we can help you add to or supplement your training to develop these key skills.
