This week’s Resource Recommendation: Making Vision Stick by Andy Stanley

Andy Stanley is an author and the founding senior pastor of a large church in Atlanta. He speaks about leadership from personal experience which is perhaps the most striking part of this book.

Making Vision Stick by Andy StanleyIn this great book, Andy talks about the ultra important topic of vision. As a leader you must be able to see a vision and define it. But, more than that, this small and short book talks about how to get that vision held, remembered and used in any organization.

The problem, as Andy defines so well, is that vision, while important, is fleeting. This quote from the book captures the idea well: “Vision is about what could be and should be, but like is about right this minute.”

The book describes five reasons visions don’t stick, and then uses personal stories and examples to describe how to overcome each of those challenges.

Andy speaks from a Christian perspective, as you would expect with his background and beliefs. If your beliefs match his the references will make sense and be comfortable to you. If they don’t, I encourage you to read it any way. This concise book has powerful ideas for helping you set and maintain your vision – one of the most important responsibilities of any leader. However, if Christian references are a real barrier for you, you might want to choose another book.

I’ve read this book twice, and I love it.

I’m confident I will read it again.
